Audre Lorde: The Uses of Anger I Sunday, May 18 I Online I 12:00 - 2:00 PM US EST
In her moving 1981 speech “The Uses of Anger: Women Responding to Racism,” Audre Lorde argues that anger and rage are the result of racism and sexism, but that anger is not futile. Instead, it is “loaded with information and energy” that must be actively translated into meaningful social change.
In this discussion-based workshop, we will read and reflect on Lorde’s 1981 speech together, exploring how acknowledging, embracing, and translating our anger can be a means of both personal and social transformation. We will both give voice to our rage and brainstorm how we can tap into it in creative ways. This workshop is open to anyone who is curious about Lorde’s work and exploring their anger. No prior knowledge of Lorde’s work is necessary.
SLIDING SCALE: Philosophy for liberation is committed to making education accessible. A sliding-scale is available for students who are BIPOC [black, indigenous, and people of color] and/or anyone in economic need. For 50% off, use promo code: UsesofAnger50. For 75% off, use code UsesofAnger75.
Refund Policy: Participants will receive a full refund up to 3 days before the event.
