Eye to Eye: Audre Lorde on Self-Love I Saturday, February 8
Workshop Description: How do women of color internalize messages from systems of oppression about hatred and love? In 1983, iconic Black lesbian poet Audre Lorde published a piece in Essence Magazine called “Eye to Eye: Black Women, Hatred, and Anger.” In this deeply autobiographical essay, Lorde examines her struggle to build meaningful relationships with other Black women due to internal conflicts she has yet to confront and grapple with, which can only be undone if she unlearns her internalized racism and sexism. In this workshop, we will study the lesson on self-love that Lorde explores in "Eye to Eye." Students will come away with a nuanced understanding of self-love, a concept Lorde carefully develops in this essay through deep internal excavation. This workshop is open to all.
This is live workshop is interactive and discussion-based.Please note that if you cannot attend live, a recording of the workshop will be shared.
